Speak To Me

Speak To Me

Speak To Me: by Gabriella Benjamin Israel

I’ve missed hearing your voice. The sweet sound of your words pouring into my ears. The comfort of your wisdom teaches me patience…how to wait for you. I’ve lived a midst the noise of my lust and idolatry for so long that I had forgotten when you would speak to me.

We used to walk by still waters and lay down in green pastures. You would teach me of peace and righteousness…and I loved you for your wisdom and mercy shown to me. I trembled at your reproof and as a child I humbled myself to your correction.

My meditation was on the things you said to me when you showed me how to speak a word in due season and not hide the light of the wisdom I received from you. I have gotten the love of the congregation through my understanding and diligence. I seek your face daily my Lord…I seek you always as a bride waits for her bridegroom.

I had fallen asleep and woke up forgetting all I was told. But I listened to the voice of precepts taught by men. I lingered in their talk and walked in their way. I fell by my desires as a child gone astray. I lost you and without you I couldn’t catch my breath…because you are the air I breathe to live.

I’ve missed hearing you speak to me…even in my forgetting…I knew something sounded strange. My heart could not connect and I was in pain by the echoing of destruction and lies in my ears. Speak Lord…I’m listening. I’ve heard enough of the talk of fools. Rouse me from this deep sleep with the thunder of your mouth! Bring me close to your lips so that I may hear you speak sweetly of justice and truth once more.

I desire the sound of your voice in my heart…for no other words sound as sweet as thus saith the Lord God of Israel.
