Shamarah’s Closet Spring/Summer ’12 for the Israelite Fashionista
Wow, I love Spring! The days are getting longer and warmer yet cool enough to still wear my coat or a blazer. The slight changes can make all the difference in your wardrobe at this time of year. Summer is just a short number of weeks, possibly days away. Are you ready to get your righteous runway on?
When the weather gets hot and the barely dressed start showing themselves all over town remember that you can still look “hot” while keeping it “real” and covered up in modest apparel.
Fashion trends for Spring/Summer 2012 are about the return of the “lady”. Think girlie girl, longer hemlines, dainty jewelry, cocktail rings, floral prints and polka dots. Structured pocket books and ladylike purses show off your pretty manicure. Lots of color from head to toe.
We are fortunate that we have many options and can still wear modest apparel. Fashion changes very quickly so as the warmer weather approaches make your selections wisely to get the most for your dollar. No need to spend a fortune on the newest looks because affordable options can be found at most national chain stores such as JC Penney, Target, H&M, Forever 21, Payless Shoes, DSW and my personal favorite Walmart!!!
You do not have to look frumpy. There are many stylish options available you just have to look. If you want something you can’t afford try the old school option of cash or layaway or get a sewing machine, some current or retro patterns, plus your own choice of fabric and make it yourself. YouTube videos can make this a reality for just about everything!!! Search the sale and clearance racks. New York and Company have great sales up to 70% off and coupons available through the mail and online along with other mass retailers. From the very expensive to the around the way stores get your fashion fix on and look the part for the season.
Must have trends for Spring/ Summer 2012…….
Color and more color…..from soft pastels to brights….think of a soft sorbet lavender blouse over a white flowy chiffon skirt….just dreamy….or a bright yellow ruffled tunic over a structured denim bottom!!!
Color blocking….take notes from your art teacher in third grade and remember the color wheel, primary and secondary colors….keep your color combos simple, two or three colors at the most.
Dresses, dresses, more dresses…..prints or solids, the maxi dress, sundress, one shoulder dress, etc. Load up on these, it’s our time to shop!……plus you can take these dresses into fall with layering pieces like a turtleneck, blazer and a scarf….dont forget!!!
Hi/ low skirts…..keep the top simple, and the shoe high, so not to drag the back when you walk….makes me feel like a princess with a train when I wear this style.
Touch of Neon….best used in small doses like accessories, bracelets rings or scarves
Bold prints….a little tribal influence, floral and graphic prints or a touch of animal print( my favorite print is zebra, but I love a bit of leopard too )….look for influence in all aspects of fashion
Shoes…….I just get happy just saying the word..lol, for even those who are very conservative, you can show personal style with so many trendy shoe options. Color is big trend in shoes this time of year, if you don’t get the whole outfit a simple flip-flop in a color for summer can make your day. Braided sandals, metallics, mega platforms ( I can grow five inches in an instant ), wedges and espadrilles.
The final and finishing touch for all outfits……border of blue and fringes…..and a head covering to go!!!![Colures head wrap[1]](http://staging-mar252018.thedaughtersofsarah.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Colures-head-wrap1-300x241.jpg)
Numbers 15 vs. 38-39 “Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue; and it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes.”
1 Corinthians 11 vs. 5 “But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head.”

Shalom sis, regarding my name change, I was born in Jamaica West Indies. Is it necessary to include Ben before my last name Israel, I am about to change my name legally and I need to know the correct way…thanks
Shalom sis, thanks for reaching out. You can change your name legally to whatever you like, you just need to adhere to all of the needed legal channels to do so. In regards to the Ben ( male ) or Batyah ( female ) that is a personal choice. As repentant men & women of the Lord we all share the same last name of our inheritance…. “Israel ”
For more scriptural clarification, please review video, regarding ” whats my name “….www.iraelunite.org, or please feel free to write or call the leadership of our congregation.
Shalom, your sister in Christ
Shamarah Sussanna Batyah Israel
Shalom sis, regarding my legal name change…from what i understand Ben is short for the tribe of Benjamin…am I correct?
If I am then I guess it would be correct to include Ben before Israel…correct?
and what does BATYAH means?
I don’t want to do anything I like. I want to do the correct thing.
I do not know the Hebrew language, I am just going by what I have learned so far.
I listen to ALL of Elder Nathanyel’s videos and in the video regarding “What’s My Name”, he did not go into the details of how you should go about changing your name, so that is why I am seeking the additional info…and I am also not clear about the needed legal channels I should adhere to…maybe you can help me with that also…
Shalom your sister in Christ
Ashira Ben Israel
Awesome post! Thanks for sharing! Shalom!
Thank you so much for this post. It has inspired me to look forward to the future as I make this transition out of pants. I have never been big on skirts or dresses but after seeing all of the different ways that I can mix and match and also layer in the winter I am excited about this new change. I really appreciate this on sister. Shalom.
