Movie Date Night

Movie Date Night

My husband and I have date night at home on occasion since he’s a big movie buff with old and newer movies and would like to share our choices with you from time to time.  He is forever the film critic so pass the buttered popcorn please!

This weeks choice is the movie ‘The Wiz’ featuring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.  It is family friendly so pile the kids on the couch.  I had the blessing to see the Broadway play ‘The Wiz’ in the 1970’s with my mother and last year I had the opportunity to see Broadways’ lastest adaptation ‘Wicked’ with my daughter as a chaperone on a school trip. It had singing, dancing, good verses evil and great costumes.  Needless to say, the storyline is considered a classic so be changed for good and remember “There’s NO place like home “.

My movie critic gives this movie  5 out of 7 stars.

The story of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is not a biblical story and neither is 99.9% of the movies made today for the naysayers but remember that every time you go to the movies or read a book that the director or author is sending a message and it’s up to you to look for things that pertain to our people today and bring them back to the scriptures.

Dorothy was seeking to go home and realized she didn’t need magic shoes or a witches help, but she had the power within herself all along.

  • Luke 17 vs. 20-21 “The kingdom of God cometh not by observation; Neither shall they say, Lo here! or there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”

Scarecrow wanted a brain but was actually quite smart in his on right.  All of us are ignorant before we repent and come into this truth.

  • Psalm 19 vs. 7 “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure making wise the simple.”

Tin man was hallow inside and wanted a heart, but was really an emotional creature.

  • Psalms 51 vs. 10  “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

The Cowardly Lion lacked courage and the strength to do what was right.

Oftentimes when brothers and sisters are new to repentance or are going through trials in their spiritual walk they become fearful, but The Lord helps them to overcome with the scriptures.

  • 2 Timothy 1 vs. 7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power; and of love, and of a sound mind.”
  • Genesis 49 vs. 9Judah is a lions’ whelp; from the prey, my son, thou art gone up; he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?”

The Wizard wanted to be something he wasn’t so as to appear all powerful and all knowing.

  • Romans 12 vs. 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”
[/tick]

The Wicked Witch used her mean spirit to rule over others so that they wouldn’t discover her secret, which was her own fear of water that would eventually lead to her destruction and death.

[tick]
  • Ephesians 5 vs. 26 “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.”
  • John 3 vs. 5Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
  • John 6 vs. 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

Enjoy the movie!!!

Psalms 134

“Behold, bless ye the Lord, all ye servants of the Lord, which by night stand in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord. The Lord that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.”
