Some of the lessons I’ve learned over the years I wish I knew a long time ago. It would have saved me a lot of wasted time and money, heartache and tears so I’m passing this info to my daughters and sisters. I’ve said and done some dumb and ignorant things so you can learn from some of my many mistakes.
With love to you all, Shamarah.
….all the time!! Deut 10 vs. 12 “And now,Israel, what doeth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”
(Tough, but you gotta do it. People can see if you are full of BS. You’re not fooling anybody but yourself) Lev 19 vs. 17-18 “Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart; thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him…thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the Lord.”
They add very little value to your life and costs you everything. Not just the money required to buy them but the time and money spent shopping for them, maintaining them, fixing them, insuring them etc. 1 Timothy 6 vs. 6-7 “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is a certain we can carry nothing out.” Luke 12 vs. 15 “…and he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness; for a mans life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
Enjoy your life and the simple things in it. Your spouse, parents, flowers, your children’s smile, a good meal, the company of friends are all valuable. Proverbs 5 vs. 18 “Let thy fountain be blessed and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.” Wisdom of Solomon 2 vs. 6 “Come on therefore, let us enjoy the good things that are present.”
You can still accomplish a lot and do amazing things. Hab 2 vs. 3 “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
The time at hand is short. All your worries, plans about the future and replaying what happened in the past are all demons in our heads and these thoughts just distract us from living in the present. John 6 vs. 63 “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you they are spirit, and they are life.”
Give your child your full attention and instead of being annoyed at the interruption be grateful for the reminder to spend time with someone you love and loves you before its too late. Colossians 3 vs. 18- 21 “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things; for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Father, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.”
I’ve spent a lot of time and money for years worrying about it and what other people thought. Be yourself. Ignore the doubters and the haters because if you weren’t doing something right or worthwhile they wouldn’t be around. I read somewhere on Facebook the following quote: “Someone who hates you normally hates you for 1 of 3 reasons. They either see you as a threat, they hate themselves, or they want to be you”. I tell my kids all the time insults are compliments and imitation is the highest form of flattery. Give them something to talk about in righteousness. Romans 1 vs. 18 “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.”
If it’s good, people will spread the word for you. You are your own best product, believe it. Be an example. Be a leader NOT a follower!! 1 Timothy 4 vs. 12 “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
In this digital age you never know what might slip into public view that you’ll regret later. People will think less of you. Ephesians 4 vs. 29 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
The best you can hope for is to inspire them with your actions. James 2 vs. 17-18 “Even so faith, if hath not works, is dead, being alone….Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.”
Don’t be afraid to make them. Try not to repeat the same ones too often. Failures are the stepping stones to success. Without failure, you’ll never know how to succeed. Try and if you fail get back up, but don’t avoid trying something out of fear of failure. Proverbs 24 vs. 16 “…for a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.”
You will get burned out!!! Exodus 31 vs. 15-16 “Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.”
A good walk, a good heartfelt hug, or a true friend. All are free. 2 Timothy 2 vs. 15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.”
It’s a long process and learning that happens overtime. If you gained 30 pounds in a year it may take at least six months to take it off with diet and exercise. Pregnancy weight is another beast of its own!!!! 1 Timothy 4 vs. 8 “For bodily exercise profiteth little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”
We are often discontent in our live because we don’t realize how much we have. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have be grateful for the things you do have. Be grateful for everything. Hebrews 12 vs. 28 “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”
Usually when we are upset it’s because we’ve lost perspective. In the larger picture the problem is so small that it means nothing. Let it go and move on. Luke 12 vs. 29 “And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink , neither be ye of doubtful mind.”
Too often we judge people on too little information. Try to understand what and why a person did something. Put yourself in the other persons shoes. Apocryphra Sirach 1 vs. 7-8 “Blame not before thou hast examined the truth; understand first, and then rebuke. Answer not before thou hast heard the cause; neither interrupt men in the midst of their talk.”
You might feel like there’s a lot of time ahead of you but it passes much faster than you think. You get gray hairs before you get your bearings in life and start to figure things out. Appreciate every moment!! Psalms 90 vs. 10 “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet it is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”
